Jupiter's mass is 318 times Earth's mass, which is 2.5 times greater than total mass of all the other planets. It would take 1047 Jupiters to make up the mass of the Sun. The equatorial diameter of the next largest planet, Saturn, is 0.84 that of Jupiter and its mass is 0.30 Jupiter's. Both Jupiter and Saturn grew into relatively large planets because they formed at a place and time in the early development of the solar system that enabled them to collect vast quantities of gas from the solar nebula. |
